ASEAN Masters International Chess Grand Prix 2007-8
The ASEAN Chess Confederation (ACC) is pleased to announce the
inaugural ASEAN Masters International Chess Grand Prix 2007-8.
While strengthening ties and increasing collaboration with shared
objectives amongst ACC member federations, the ASEAN Masters Grand Prix
will also provide the many talented players in our region opportunities
to gain valuable international exposure while improving their ratings
and earning master titles
Thanks to the support of the Philippines (2 legs, in November and again
in February), Singapore (1 leg in December), Indonesia (1 leg in
January) 4 legs are already confirmed and we expect to organise at
least 6 legs in total before the end of June 2008.
The ACC urges other member federations to come forward with their legs
by the 31 July 2007 deadline.
Regulations for the ASEAN Grand Prix
- 1. Countries wishing their tournaments to be part of the
Grand Prix must also participate in other legs with a minimum of four
players for the Masters Open.
- 2. There may be two sections: Masters Open and Challengers
Section. The Masters shall qualify for Grand Prix Points, with the
criteria below.
- 3. The Masters shall be a 10-round Swiss.
- 4. Minimum rating for participants is 2100. The host
country may nominate a maximum of 4 players whose ratings are below
2100.
- 5. The host country decides on the structure of entry fees
and privileges for invited players.
- 6. The host country decides on the prize fund. The minimum
prize fund is US$10,000 not including special prizes.
- 7. The category level of a tournament depends on the prize
fund. Starting from US$10,000 the category is considered as one-star.
For every additional amount of US$5,000 one more star is added up to a
maximum of 10-star for prize fund exceeding US$50,000.
- 8. For each tournament, Grand Prix points are awarded onlhy
to ASEAN players. The number of GP Points = Score multiplied by the
number of stars.
- 9. The Grand Prix Fund is US$25,000 allocated as US$6,000;
US$5,000; US$4,000; US$3,000; US$2,000; US$1,000 x 5. In case of ties,
the amounts shall be pooled and shared equally.
- 10. Players must participate and complete at least 3 or 50%
minus one of the total number of tournaments.
