27.12.11 Little Newton’s Mind Gymnast Program

Little Newton’s Mind Gymnast Program is for children between the ages of 4 and 12. This term weekly modular program to be conducted in Term 1, includes (1) 10 international chess lessons – beginner level (every Wednesday, 5 sessions to choose from), and (2) 10 hands-on science lessons (everyday, 5 sessions to choose from) as children learn best through interaction and discovery!

08.12.11 Announcement - Intchess Asia Pte Ltd (ICA)

Intchess Asia Pte Ltd (ICA) was established in 1996 and Asean Chess Academy (ACA) was founded in 2002. ICA owned 100% of ACA.

In 2010, Ignatius Leong had bought over ACA from ICA. ACA will focus mainly on regional chess development with effect from 1 January 2012.

A group of ICA/ACA trainers and staff have bought over 100% of ICA from Ignatius Leong with effect from 7 December 2011.

With effect from 1 January 2012, ICA and ACA shall be separate business entities. Full management restructuring will be announced soon.

05.12.11 Little Newton Cup Chess Competition

As a platform for our chess students to apply and test their chess knowledge and skills, on 17 Dec , Sat, Intchess Asia and Little Newton are organising The Little Newton Cup Chess Competition for Under 12, Under 10 and Under 8 at Forum The Shopping Mall. 15 prizes to be won, Places limited to first sixty registartions.

Fees : Free for current Little Newton, Intchess Asia/Asean Chess Academy’s Nov/Dec 2011 holiday programs and current modular courses students. $10 for others. Click for more details - registration form

Registration for our November, December School Holiday Courses is Open! Based on our highly effective modular courses (Beginners, Elementary, Intermediate, Developmental 1/2/3, Advanced, Opening and End Games) we offer weeklycourses from 21 Nov to 30 Dec 2011 (Monday to Friday) 10am, 2pm & 6pm

  • 08.09.11 Chess Lecture by Eric Gloria and Simul with GM Zhang Zhong on 7 Sep

    On 7 September, twelve Asean Chess Academy (ACA) and ex ACA trainees attended an interesting lecture by ACA FIDE Trainer Eric Gloria. This was followed by a simul with Grandmaster Zhang Zhong, also an ACA Trainer. GM Zhang won 12 - 0 in 1.5 hours. However, some of the players played good games, including Hsieh Wen (20 years old) and 5 year old Micheal Yeoh. Other players whose games were highlighted for analysis were Alfred Chua, Heng Zheng Kai and Sean Anthony Masci. Well done to our junior players. Others also benefitted from the chess lecture by Eric and the very clear analysis by GM Zhang.

    The event was held in a spacious and comfortable lounge in Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) and sponsored by SRC.

    02.09.11 Complimentary Chess Lecture and Simul with GM Zhang Zhong

    Current and ex- Asean Chess Academy trainees are invited to attend the following complimentary chess lecture and Simul on 7th September Wednesday at Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) Padang Room.

    11am to 12.30pm Lecture by Eric Gloria, FIDE Trainer and NM 12.30pm to 1.30 pm Lunch

    1.30pm to 3.30pm Simul with Grand Master Zhang Zhong.

    About 15 players will play simultaneous games with GM Zhang over 15 boards

    3.30 pm to 4pm Debrief and Anaysis of 1 game by GM Zhang

    This event is sponsored by SRC and supported by Asean Chess Academy.

    Interested trainees please email to sam@aseanchess.com , indicating the trainee's name and level i.e. elementary, intermediate etc. Up to 10 trainees will be offered places on a first come first served basis. Closing date 06/09/2011 at 5pm.

    20.06.11 Zhansaya Abdumalik, joint first in Asean Age U20!

    11-year old Abdumalik Zhansaya of Kazahkstan finished joint first in the Girls Under-20 category of the Asean Age-Group Championships and henceforth receives the Woman International Master title.

    Previous student Nguyen Thi Mai Hung of Vietnam, who was based in Singapore (then 12 years old) for 2 years’ training, had also achieved the WIM title in 2009 at the age of 15.

    JUNIOR PREPARATORY SQUAD 2011 TERM 3

    This is a programme for trainees who missed out on the Singapore Chess Federation National Junior Development Squad cut off benchmark (but score of 2.5 points minimum). ACA Developmental/Advanced Trainees who has competed in tournaments may apply (Subject to our approval). Training session lasting 3 hours shall be held weekly. Contents are independent from those used in previous terms.

    08.05.11 Zhansaya Abdumalik, World Schools Champion!

    Asean Chess Academy congratulates our trainee Abdumalik Zhansaya of Kazakhstan for winning the World Schools Girls Under-11 Championship which concluded on 8th May in Poland. Zhansaya scored 8 consecutive wins and drew the last game.

    Zhansaya has been training in Singapore for 2 months with several trainers including playing training games daily with our trainers. She intends to use Singapore as her training base to pursue the WGM title.

    For our syllabus courses (Beginners, Elementary, Intermediate, Developmental 1/2/3) we offer courses Monday-Friday 10am or 2pm (3 hours per day, except Beginners levels that will be 2 hours per day) in each of the holiday weeks.

    There will be also 2 special courses per week (one in the morning session, one in the afternoon)

    This time we also offer intensive Opening Courses as a Chess Camp.

    Monday 14th and Tuesday 15th we will conduct a Camp about the Italian Opening and Thursday 17th and Friday 18th we will organize another one about the Scotch Opening (both of them 10 am - 4 pm, with lunches and 2 tea breaks per day) .
